Marbleknot Design Studio is on a mission to bring geometry back to consumer products worldwide.
The London, Ontario surface pattern design studio will be one of almost 300 international exhibitors taking part in SURTEX, North America’s premier event for the selling and licensing of original art and design, taking place May 15 – 17 at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Centre.
This will be Marbleknot’s second trip to the prestigious event. Last year, Marbleknot Design Studio was one of only two exhibitors from Canada.
“It’s a large investment, but the potential to make international connections is huge,” says Marbleknot founder and chief visualizer, Emilio Barbero. “It’s a great opportunity to meet other people in the art licensing industry, and to put London on the map in the design world.”
Barbero’s bold, geometric approach to surface pattern design helps Marbleknot Design Studio stand out from the crowd. “People are attracted to my patterns and colours. My design is quite different and I can see people’s eyes light up when they reach my booth.”
Barbero’s goal is to build relationships with product developers worldwide and to license his patterns for use on a wide range of consumer goods.
In the meantime, he designs and produces a small range of Marbleknot products, including bow ties, pocket squares, zippy bags, notebooks and watches. All are made in small batches in North America and are available through the Marbleknot website, the Toronto One of a Kind Store website, Modify Watches, and at various pop-up stores around London.
Originally from Mexico City, Barbero brings more than a decade of experience as a commercial interior designer to his surface pattern design work.
He moved to London Ontario in 2007 and founded Marbleknot Design Studio in 2014 as a creative outlet to explore his love of geometric shapes and bright colours.
