A new film festival has raised its curtain in London, Ontario. Filmmakers with ties to Southwestern Ontario are being called upon to pitch their flicks to The Forest City Film Festival, slated to open Nov. 11 with screenings at Wolf Performance Hall, in Downtown London and run through the entire weekend with additional screenings at Wolf and at the Hyland Cinema.
The festival submissions officially opened March 1, and has already had films submitted, said Dorothy Downs, festival Artistic Director.
"We have tremendous talent that comes from this region and it is time that we celebrate this. Some of our own even get nominated and win Academy Awards. We are looking forward to giving our audience a taste of the best of this home grown talent and to give more local filmmakers opportunities to show their work at home.” To submit movies, filmmakers are being asked to go to forestcityfilmfest.ca
The festival is looking for movies in short, documentary and feature film categories.
As for criteria, the festival aims to promote and support the regional film industry. "We are looking for films that have at least one member of the key artistic team from or currently residing in the area or films that were filmed in the area or are about the area," said Downs.
"We want to be clear that subject matter or setting of the film is not restricted to the region. It's a pretty broad canvas when you realize the number of industry people that have lived here or gone to school here. We expect to have a great lineup of films for the audiences to choose from in November."
The artistic team means director, writer, producer or lead actor. The festival will offer awards to winning films in the categories: Best Short, Best Feature, Best Documentary and Audience Choice Award.
Submissions will be accepted until July 30 and the event will be held Nov. 11 to 13.
