London fashion designer Carmina De Young is bringing her first ready-to-wear collection to market with the support of two local fashion mavens, wardrobe and image consultant Susan Jacobs, and business mentor Gloria Dona.

De Young’s Spring / Summer 2016 collection is now available by appointment at the Pop with Purpose studio, with a fashion show planned for April 15 at the same location.

Founded in 2012, the Carmina De Young label has developed a loyal following for its couture and custom-made designs. Encouraged by Jacobs and Dona, the Mexican-born designer is now ready to take the next step towards her dream of becoming a household name.

The result is a 25-piece ready-to-wear collection that can take women from the office to casual activities or a night on the town.

“These clothes are on trend, easy to wear, and look great on any body,” says Jacobs. Women can build an entire spring and summer wardrobe around De Young’s classic pants and pencil skirts, paired with a variety of tops and a stunning ¾ length Duster Coat, she notes.

Each piece is available in size XS to XL with prices ranging from $79 to $259.

Instead of trying to break into the notoriously-difficult retail market, Dona and Jacobs offered to leverage their considerable networking skills and fashion industry knowledge to bring the De Young collection directly to London women through the Pop with Purpose studio.

Open by appointment, the pop-up store allows women to work one-on-one with Jacobs to select and style the pieces they love. Once an order is placed, turn-around time is between two to three weeks.

It’s incredible.”

The studio doors will be thrown open to the public for an informal fashion show, April 15.

“Our goal is to spread the word about this ready-to-wear collection and to help Carmina organize pop-up stores right across Canada,” says Dona, who has plans to launch a second pop-up studio in British Columbia this May. “We believe in Canadian designers like Carmina, and want to help them find their market.”

Born and raised in Puebla, Mexico, De Young discovered her passion as a young child, taking inspiration from her mother’s creative flair for fashion and design.

A graduate of Fanshawe College’s Fashion Design program, De Young’s clothing has been showcased locally and on national platforms, including at Vancouver Fashion Week and at the Caisa Fashion Show at Western University. She has also worked with well-known fashion photographers John Sayer White, Erwin Lowen, Daniela Magic and Steve Grimes.
